Responsibilities:


This position will develop the physiology and phenotyping R&D strategy within Tomato for complex traits that require a multi disciplinary approach. The TPL is also responsible for designing introgression and deployment plans as part of a validated breeding project. They serve as project lead or member of a project team in a given vegetable crop that requires his/her expertise for project success. They will provide technical leadership to the entire vegetable R&D community on a selected area of expertise.

Key accountabilities include the dissection and characterization of complex physiology traits to guide future product development and marketing activities through project and portfolio management; study the genetic variability of the traits of interest; develop techniques and technologies applicable to high-throughput and/or precision phenotyping for complex traits including digital imaging, remote sensing, metabolite sampling and analysis; identify and the capture of intellectual property.
This position will report to the Global Lead Physiology & Phenotyping TPLs within the Trait & Technology organization

 

 Critical knowledge:


• Expert knowledge in Trait or Plant Biochemistry, Physiology, or related discipline (Ph.D. or Master degree with 10 years’ experience)
• Demonstrated understanding of plant breeding and use of molecular markers
• Knowledge of abiotic stresses, understanding of trait or plant physiology in a research and discovery context
• Knowledge of phenotyping technologies
• Basic knowledge of crop genetic diversity, statistics, molecular marker development and project management
• Demonstrated leadership in a technical and multicultural environment

Critical experience


• 3-5 years of Trait or Plant Physiology or Food Science or Biochemistry within commercial sector
• 3-5 years of technical and/or staff management
• Proven ability to work with large and complex datasets
• Proven ability to develop and implement experimental methodologies
